Journey with the Fun-sized Dinos

For me chickens are interesting creatures, ever since I was a kid I never knew what they are. Are they mammals? Or are they a reptiles? They lay eggs don't they? Like lizards do and if we go back dinosaurs. They're always warm every time I pet them. They like maintained their body temperature. Chickens are warm like mammals.

First of all I have these four amazing chickens, and they have names! There's Ariel(brown), the twin chickens Britney and Starbucks(blonde), and Tyrena(black). Ariel is the leader if the bunch. She's like the Alpha chicken. She pecks on the other chickens if any of them pisses her off. Field-notes 9-14

Today i learned that chickens can not sit still and stay in their pens like a good chicken. The picture above, is Britney who always finds a way to escape the pen. Unlike the three they are satisfied with the pen, where there is food and water. Unlike Britney here, i call her like the escape artist because every time she manages to escape I put new barriers to keep her in. She always escapes it. It annoys me and it gets pretty fun. I think of it as a challenge. The three is just happy with their patch of bush pecking at it happily. Field-note 9-22

  1. How old are they? Does their behavior change with age? I'm curious about the alpha chicken. Are the others afraid of her? or do they simply allow her to push them around?

  2. I dont the exact age but I think there like 2 years old. No there behaviors hasn't changed yet. The three follows where the alpha chicken goes. Yeah the three are afraid of the alpha chicken if they get them mad. Yeah the three lets them be pushed around by the alpha chicken.

  3. To start off I love your title for the blog, it really got my attention. I remember when my dad had a chicken farm and there always seemed to be some sort of alpha chicken around too. The alpha chicken always pecked at the other chickens if they tried to eat before he did, does your chicken do the same?

  4. Actually yes! The alpha chicken would always be the first one to eat. Sometimes the beta chickens tries to steal its food and end up getting pecked on.

  5. I really like how you give the chickens their own names, it makes it more interesting. I also like the picture of the chicken it kinda does look like a Dino-chicken.
